As Perth’s only revolving restaurant, The C Restaurant, located on St. Georges Terrace, boasts an elegant dining experience with exclusive 180-degree views of the city.
I decided to take a look for myself, making a reservation for my friend, who was visiting from New York, and I for the C Restaurant’s high tea. I hadn’t been before and since it was her first time in Perth we took it as an opportunity for her to see the city, as well as experience an English-inspired food tradition.
Decisions and inclusions
With four high tea selections to choose from, I picked the ‘Classic High Tea’ for $44. My friend opted for the ‘Sparkling High Tea’ at $55, which included a glass of sparkling wine. All high teas come with bottomless cups of specialty tea or percolated coffee.
When the food came out, it was served on a three-tier stand. We each had two scones with jam and cream on the side, three varieties of petit fours, and three varieties of finger sandwiches.
Food
Upon first glance, we were a little surprised by the sparse arrangement of food brought to our table. We thought there would have been a larger selection of food, especially for the price. In the end, we found that the assortment was actually more than we were able to fit in our bellies.
Our favourite item was a light and bubbly chocolate mousse, which was topped with crushed biscuits and chopped fruits. It tasted divine.
Delivering joy to our taste buds, the food itself was also aesthetically pleasing; delicately assembled with elegant pops of colour. I did find the overall presentation was slightly disappointing. Arranged on white plates, the display itself looked relatively plain like something you would have in the cupboard at home.
As expected with a high tea, the selection’s balance of sweet and savoury favoured the sweet tooth. The first and second tier were both filled with a decent assortment of buttery scones and desserts, which I expect even those particularly fond of sweet foods would find it hard to leave the table without a sugar rush. However, it would have been nice to have more assortment of the savoury items, aside from just sandwiches.
Service
Since we dined mid-afternoon on a weekday, the restaurant was relatively quiet. As for our service, our waiter was pleasant.
We also noticed the patience and enthusiasm of our waiter when guests requested he take photos of them with the city backdrop. I guess that comes with the territory of working a job with a view!
Experience
The C Restaurant is a great option to see the sights of Perth from an aerial perspective and enjoy some modern Australian cuisine.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at C Restaurant, and I do plan on having another meal there in the near future – a sunset dinner would be quite spectacular. However, it is not somewhere I would go specifically for the food. I would suggest you dine here with the expectations that you’re also paying for the view, and not the just the meal.
As the only revolving restaurant in the city, whether you live in Perth and haven’t been or you’re a tourist passing through, I would recommend this place for the experience.
Reservations
C Restaurant requires you to call 48 hours ahead with your booking, however, they were nice enough to let my friend and I book at a table the morning of our high tea. We had a table right by the window, which meant we had an unblocked view of the city.
When making your reservation, be sure to secure a table by the window because the view is the crux of this dining experience.
