How would you feel about enjoying your lunch with How would you feel about enjoying your lunch with these two onlookers watching you? 👀 This is one of my favourite photos that I took in Tanzania. On the day this was taken we were exploring the Ngorongoro Crater. Towards the end of our game drive it started pouring with rain as we arrived at our lunch spot. When we parked up at the stop, our attention was immediately drawn to these two lions, who seemed pretty unbothered by the rain as they sat in the scrub right by the tourist lunch area 😂 (No fences between them and the picnic spot by the way.) What might be even more unbelievable is that there were numerous tourists getting out of vehicles right by the scrub - getting too close for comfort imo - just to get a better view or the perfect shot. In these moments, I genuinely wonder if the concept of reality simply goes out the window. I know there are times where I certainly get a little swept away by the carefree attitude that travel brings. I was absolutely terrified the first time I travelled solo and now I wouldn’t think twice! Here are my tips on what you should consider when thinking about going solo travelling for the first time: ✨ Pick a solo-friendly destination you feel comfortable travelling to by yourself (and don’t be afraid to start somewhere close by). Some people won’t even consider solo travel - its certainly not for everyone, but if you want to test the waters, a short solo trip will be a great way to figure out if it’s for you. ✨ If you can’t find a friend or family member to travel with you but you’re not ready to do it completely on your own, join a group tour. Going solo doesn’t mean you have to be alone! ✨ Hostels are a great option for solo travellers, regardless of whether you’re an introvert or extrovert. While many people assume hostels are simply shared dorms (which is a little unnerving to some people), a lot of hostels offer private room options, which means you have the social experience and amenities available to you but with your own private space. Alongside that, if you’re up for making new friends or having a chat, hostels are a great place to connect with other travellers. ✨ Research and be prepared for your trip so you can rule out as many unexpected hiccups as possible! Did you know about this?! ✈️💺 I’m usuall Did you know about this?! ✈️💺 I’m usually an avid aisle seat traveller but when I recently flew on a shorter two-hour flight, I spiced up my flying habits and chose window seats. BUT my window seat appeared to be missing something on the return flight 😂 As well as certain seats in other aircraft carriers, 9A seats in both @qantas and @virginaustralia Boeing 737s do not have an actual window. ABOUT THE GIANTS: Artist Thomas Dambo (@thomasdambo) brought his incredible trolls to life in secret locations throughout Mandurah in November 2022 (with the help of @formwa), where they are expected to stay for three years. The giants are all made from recycled wood and are an addition to Dambo’s work around the globe aiming to reconnect people with the natural world. 🍃 Have YOU found any of Dambo’s artwork around the world? 🌎🌍🌏 TIPS FOR VISITING THE GIANTS OF MANDURAH: ⏰ If you want to get an early start like I did, be aware that the Mandurah Visitors Centre (@visitmandurah) opens at 9am. This is where you’ll pick up the guide that’ll help you track down the giants. 🚗 I didn’t realise this before going but you’ll need a vehicle to drive to each of the trail starting points. In Mandurah there is a 5 - 25 minute drive between some of the starting points. There is parking at each of the starting points. ⏱️ There are five giants and five trails to each of them. The length of time you’ll need to reach each giant differs but trails will take between 10 - 45 minutes to complete. The shortest hike is 550m and the longest is 3.6km. ⏳ If you plan to see the Giants of Mandurah in one trip, it’ll likely take most of the day. 🥾 Some of the trails are gravel/ dirt so it might be best to wear comfortable, closed-in walking shoes (and not sandals like me 😅) 🚽 A few of the starting points actually have toilet facilities near the parking areas. Otherwise, Mandurah Visitors Centre also has a public toilet for visitors. 🪰 One trail in particular has SO many bugs. I was unprepared but I’d recommend bug spray. (One lady was even wearing a fly net on her head and commented about how many had gotten stuck in it. Giraffes are one of my favourite animals and the animal I was most excited to see on safari. These lanky, kind-of-strange looking mammals are incredibly peaceful to watch in the wild as they reach for leaves to satisfy the 34 kilograms of food they eat a day. Hiring a car, hiring a driver or booking a tour are probably the best options for transport. It’s also a good day trip option if you’re staying in Dubrovnik, which is approximately 2.5 hours away by car. 💵 The entrance fee to the park is 20KM. This is the Tomb of Amyntas, one of the Lycian Roc This is the Tomb of Amyntas, one of the Lycian Rock Tombs which are located in Fethiye, Turkey. 🏛 The ancient tomb was carved into the limestone rock face all the way back in 350 BC. Unless you’re someone who’s going to be doing a lot of these trips, clothes from your wardrobe or new purchases suitable for the trip that you’d also wear in your everyday life will do just fine. I did and barely wore them - I could’ve easily just taken my Converse for my closed-in shoe option (with long socks) as I mostly lived in my sandals. If you’re more comfortable in boots, go for it but again you don’t need to spend the extra $$ if you’re only buying boots for the trip. 🧥 COLOURS OF CLOTHES 👕 Opt for neutral colours (browns, beige, tan, khaki, green). I took a lot of white and beige and those clothes showed up so much dust and dirt that I’d recommend leaning towards majority of your clothes being tans, greens, khaki and browns. AVOID black and blues in areas where the Tsetse fly is known to be, as they are more attracted to these colours.
